Core Competencies

Core competencies are the fundamental criteria for each learning outcome, specifically focused on demonstrating a progressively more sophisticated level of attainment. They represent a basic framework that all graduates are expected to know, and demonstrate in a professional manner. These are especially important today, as there are many issues that will demand the professional level of skill that all graduates should possess. I have built my understanding of these core competencies, however over this semester, in regards to my Capstone I hope to further enhance my understanding.

ORAL COMMUNICATION

Oral Communication, the ability to express your ideas in verbal form. Over the years I have greatly improved my oral communication skills. I am still developing them, but the more I am encouraged to present my ideas, the more willing I am to take that route. Although I have developed these skills, I am still not at the level I should be. I’m hoping that my Capstone project will help me develop those skills, and understand how to stay calm.

WRITTEN COMMUNICATION

Written communication is the expression of an idea in written word, by far the most important way of communicating ideas. The development of these skills were very much influenced and developed further from my Critical thinking & writing class. As I am further encouraged to write I am better able to communicate my ideas in a more academic manner, rather than my normal free-flowing journalistic writing. I have grown more confident in my writing skills, however there is always room for improvement. I have a tendency to form my own opinions, and am far better at communicating them in my writing rather than speaking them.
